Advance Techniques and Creative Play Linocut Workshop

This week we will use a block/s, from our previous classes to learn & play with more advanced inking techniques. This week is part theory & demonstration, & much playing for the participants. I will assist in your experimentation as we take our printmaking to the next level. Participants will have the opportunity to choose two options : TEA TOWEL / TOTE BAG / CUSHION COVER / CARD / WALL IMAGE to complete in any way they see fit, using the new inking techniques, repeat pattern, registration etc.

#Timber&Tin 2.0

This is an exploration of the quintessential Australian architecture, and heritage, that has formed our identity. Old Schoolhouse Gallery artists; Natasha Gibson Scott (printmaker), Junita Grosvenor (painter), and Cliff Eames (printmaker) of Yurara Art Gallery and Impress Printmakers have each taken a personal journey to explore their experience of #Timber&Tin.

This week we delve into exciting world of COLOUR linocut. We will be carving a smaller 10cmx10cm size image - but we will have the option of FOUR COLOURS (three colours and black). Natasha will assist you in planning your image, and will discuss the theory of multiplate linocut printing. She will also assist you in the planning and execution of your image - NOTE - four 10cmx10cm blocks will have to be cut and inked and printed, so choosing a suitable image will be important.

Reduction Linocut Workshop (colour)

This week we will continue our adventure into COLOUR PRINTMAKING by using ONE 10x10cm silk cut lino to carve a multicolour image to print on either a CARD or a WALL IMAGE (or both). Using our transfer techniques from week one, multicolour experience from last week, and registration techniques learnt to date; we will use a single block and repeatedly carve into it, and print the “layers” of colour. This is a fantastic technique to use in creating limited edition colour image.

This week we will be completing a TEA TOWEL or TOTE BAG with a repeating pattern. I will teach you the theory to plan and execute your own repeating pattern - you will feel confident in drawing up&carving. This week we will work on Ezi Carve & use Fabric Ink instead - allowing us to make our item washable, & giving us a wide choice in colours. I will also teach you the relevant “REGISTRATION” tip, tricks, & techniques - allowing you to produce your own bespoke item. (These make great Gifts)

Linocut a Wall Image

We will recap the transfer technique from week one, the importance of our mark making, and we will expand our mark making and cutting technique by completing a more challenging WALL IMAGE. One-onstages, and finishing with Natasha assisting you to print your image - while teaching you how to roll the ink, ink the block, and print onto paper-one guidance will be provided to help each participant achieve their best possible result; walking you through each stage individually.

Make your own Greeting Card stamp

We will learn a little about the history of printmaking, particularly Linocut, and I will teach participants a simple transfer technique using your mobile phone photographs. We will also discuss MARK MAKING - and which tools to use for which types of marks, and which marks will assist you in achieving a suitable outcome for your project. THIS WEEK WE WILL COMPLETE A SIMPLE IMAGE/PATTERN GREETING CARD - allowing you to create your very own bespoke card to celebrate that special occasion/person

Printmakers Promenade

A Printmakers Promenade a retrospective exhibition of Australian based work by Natasha Gibson Scott Tash moved to Australia in 2008 with her family - husband Emerson, 8yo daughter Kayla and 14 week old Jonathan. She joined Impress Printmakers in 2009 in an attempt to restart her art career in Australia - but the timing with family commitments and limited support was bad.
